Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you! This year, we celebrated Christmas in Beaufort, SC, known as the “Queen of the Sea Islands.” And a queen, she is! A large part of my history is interwined with this charming town, and therefore, holds a special place in my heart. After leaving the military, many moons ago, I chose Beaufort to be my home. I attended nursing school here. I worked in their community hospital, and I made some of the best friends I’ll ever have. I also spent some of my best single-girl years here until I met, fell in love with, and married Matt. Best of all, we had our daughter here! This place was our beginning as a family.
So, coming back and spending Christmas here has felt like a homecoming. And we didn’t skip a beat! We baked cookies, wrapped presents, decorated our Christmas tree, made construction paper stars and garland, mailed Christmas cards, moved our Elf, Sparkle (every. single. night), exchanged gifts, met with friends, and ate lots of food. And, the main event, Christmas morning, went off without a hitch. All the presents were under the tree. Sparkle got permission to stay and give Maria her present. All the stockings were stocked, including mine! Thanks, Matt! And Santa came through this year for all of Maria’s presents, which weren’t many. Lucky us! But phew! Who else is in recovery mode right now?
All wrapping paper, tinsel, glitter, and chaos aside, we could not have asked for a better Christmas! And we are grateful. We spent quality time together in our special place, and we were healthy and happy. We know that is not the case for all families. We sincerely hope that you and yours had a holiday full of joy, love, health, and connection to the ones you love most.
