From Hamilton to Christmas

I must admit and say that we were late to the Hamilton bandwagon. The shame! My fanaticism started slowly, after watching the legendary musical on Disney+, and snowballed to what I would call a healthy (ahem) Hamilton devotion.

So how did we get from Hamilton to Christmas, you might ask? Leslie Odom, Jr. Ah, the wonderful Leslie Odom, Jr. His velvety vocals cemented our love of the song Wait for it.  My daughter and I will unabashedly have this particular song on repeat as we run errands.

Theodosia writes me a letter every day…We laugh and we cry and we break and we make our mistakes…Life doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints”.

Yes, but where does Christmas come in? Okay, you may or may not have known that Leslie Odom, Jr. recently had a limited 12-week return to Hamilton. Yasss! I immediately looked for tickets, and let’s just say that they were definitely out of my price range. I felt defeated, but not to fear, one of my most favorite people found out that LO, Jr. was performing his annual “The Christmas Tour”! It was within our price range, and he was performing near our city. Win! Also, how did I not know he had an annual Christmas tour?

Okay, let’s just say that if I wasn’t a LO, Jr. fan before, I was after his Christmas tour. And he performed Wait for it! The concert was incredible from start to finish, performing favorites like Last Christmas, I’ll be Home for Christmas, and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. My favorites were Christmas written by Pete Townshend, Snow by Odom, Jr., and another original called Heaven and Earth, dedicated to moms. I mean come on!

But this performance wasn’t  possible without four other outstanding musicians. His pianist, guitarist, drummer, and bassist were out of this world! However, as amazing as everything was, the best part of all was looking over and seeing Maria’s face light up. What a gift it was to experience such joy with my daughter.

Let us know if you’ve seen “The Christmas Tour” or share any other special events you’ve shared with your kids.
